How to Create Your Best Art (no degrees, hustlin, or experience necessary)

How to Create Your Best Art (no degrees, hustlin, or experience necessary) Ooh, that  Kat McBride. Not only is she killing it with the art classes shes been teaching, but now shes gonna give fear the smackdown especially when were convinced that we need more training or that were not creative. Puh-shah! Fear Not of Breaking the Rules by Sincerely Noted If youre not creating the art you want because you, cant even draw a straight line, please, get a ruler and get on with your bad self. I share art tutorials for beginners online, plus I teach art classes and workshops to all ages. I want people to get their hands on this info and use it to better their lives by creating more beauty via art: Art and beauty can heal by building self esteem through positive self expression, and it doesnt have to be hard. If you couldn’t tell I’m a painting zealot. Making art is like making magic. It is a brain-body-muse love fest between you and the canvas. I want aspiring artists to connect with that spark and enthusiasm for their art. The truth is that its not hard to make art but there is a tiny bit of foundation you need there are rules to proportion and the way you use color. But I dont believe that anyone should let the rules stop them from learning, creating art, or taking the steps to build their business. My mission to really let girls and women know that you can be an artist and you dont need to go to school or have some innate talent to do it. Everyone is creative. Quick backstory: I went to an expensive private art school and I learned all the rules, but you know what, most of my classes were studio classes: drawing or painting a model or still life for 3 hours straight. It was a bit of technique and rules then practice practice practice. Grind, grind, grind. Why would someone need to spend $22,000 + a year for that? (Spoiler Alert â€" you dont. More power to you if that is what you truly want though, get enrolled and get on with your bad self.) I am not trying to dismiss education, by all means, dont think I am talking about skipping out on proper schooling when needed and where applicable. Im talking about having love, enthusiasm, and passion to get you through your life and business choices, instead of feeling held back or scared by not being an expert. In business and life there are a lot of notions that you have to start with an expensive degree and expert status. There are countless missives about hustlin / bustling / bootstrapping and getting the work done. You can come from that place, too, especially if it feels empowering to you, but it feels tight to me. What if you changed your approach? Creating art is like creating a business is like asking for that promotion that you totally deserve- it starts with mindset and telling that fear to shove it. (Even if 20% of you is still shaking in your boots.) If you want to create your best art, your best resources, and be of best service to the people you want to reach it comes from that place of empowered mindset and caring. I get there with painting but you might get there with yoga, writing, making a mean chili, or dancing to 80s pop. Create the art that you need to create and share it with the world from that place you are in when you are breathing into that pose, shakin your groove thang, and sharing your favorite recipes with your favorite people. I’ve met so many smart creative, generous, successful business women online in the 8 months of growing my businessâ€" Can you imagine what it would be like to be immersed in an environment of that same smart, creative, generous, enthusiastically ignited energy? Dont you get chills thinking of it? You would come out creatively, spiritually, artistically ignited as a person and businessperson. Shakin your business groove thang and getting things done. (This is the bit of ninja endorsing: Michelles coaching and the When I Grow Up Clubhouse brought this mindset shift out for me.) What would creating your art or doing your work from that  shakin your groove thang  place be like for you? Kat is an avid artist, creative maven, mom, and teacher. She is definitely a painting zealot, an art enabler, and a creative catalyst. She loves chai, candy-colored paint, new brushes, karaoke, and nerding out about creativity. She shares art, tutorials, and true stories about the intersection of artist + mom over at KatCanPaint.com
